    Stormclouds over Loch Harry was painted during the summer holidays of 1961, when Kemp and his son Jeremy were staying in a little cottage by Skeabrae and rowed out across  Loch of Harry to paint a series of skyscapes.  Two paintings of YESNABY CASTLE were undertaken on the same holiday.     Kemp was a gifted cellist (he had played with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra before committming himself to painting) and music provided one of the key ingredients of his art.  He and his wife, Irene Crowther, were one half of the KERA Quartet, a widely known string quartet. Irene played with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the London Symphony.

    This view is taken from the vantage point near to NEFYN and looking north east towards the headland of TRWYN Y GORLECH and the Moel (mountain) of BWLCH Yr EIFT, one of Kemp's favourite haunts, on the north coast of the LLYN Peninsular.
